From eating sweet treats, to choosing a present for a special someone, to even visiting with Santa Claus, Highland Elementary School's first annual Holiday Bazaar combined all of the best of the holiday season.

The Highland PTA hosted the festive fundraiser on Dec. 8 and raised about $3,000 for the elementary school.

"I thought the event went very well for its first year," said Stephanie Cowger, an event organizer. "We received a lot of positive feedback from the vendors and those that attended. Overall, it was fun and well attended- a success."

The fundraiser featured the jolly man himself, Santa Claus, who visited with the younger crowd and took pictures to help remember the special day.

The Highland Eagles Choir also preformed during the bazaar and shortly afterwards, Highland's gym was filled with more than 30 vendors offering holiday-related items for purchase.

The event also included Amber Garden Center selling small Christmas trees, greens and seasonal decorations. Food, refreshments, baked goods and a raffle were also available for purchase during the event.

A canned food drive also took place at the fundraiser and donators received a free raffle ticket for their contribution.

"We do not have an estimation of attendance, but the building was very busy the entire time. I feel as though it was something fun that all ages enjoyed," Cowger said.

To prepare for the event, Cowger asked that volunteers bring in wrapping paper, holiday lights, quilt batting and construction paper (red, green, brown and white). With these supplies, Highland became a festive atmosphere, celebrating the season and the gift of giving.

Throughout the years, the Highland PTA has raised more than $20,077 to donate to the elementary school. With these generous donations, several helpful purchases were made such as, library renovations, picnic tables, smart boards and screens for classrooms.
