On your marks, get set, fundraise!

Fishcreek's annual 5K Raccoon Run is set for April 28 at Silver Springs Park.

The Fishcreek PTA encourages not only parents, but also community members and local businesses get involved by donating or to tie up their running shoes and participate in a 5K running event in order to raise money for Fishcreek Elementary School.

“Last year, our PTA decided to think outside of the box with fundraising for the elementary school, and so the Fishcreek Raccoon Run was born,” Fishcreek PTA President Jennifer Taylor said. “The support from our Fishcreek family, as well as from the businesses in and around Stow, has been nothing short of amazing. This says a lot about our community’s commitment to health, fitness and education.”

Those participating in the running event will meet at the Young Road entrance at Silver Springs Park. The Raccoon Run will consist of several events starting at 6:30 a.m., and ending at 10:30 a.m.

Runners will complete the 5K course at 8 a.m., and shortly after the race, a pancake breakfast will be provided at the Heritage Barn for those participating. The breakfast is new this year, according to the Fishcreek PTA.

Awards and a one-mile fun walk/run will take place around 9 a.m.

Removable tattoo drawing, face painting and hair painting will also be occurring at the Raccoon Run.

“It is such a huge success that we now know that the Fishcreek 5K Raccoon Run will be around year after year!” Taylor said.

Those participating in the fundraiser are encouraged to sponsor the race with monetary donations, in-kind donations and possibly donate grand prizes such as the Kindle Fire, iPad2 and iPod Touch.

More than 20 businesses have already pledged their support to the race.

Bellacino's Pizza and Grinders, Crossfit Cadre, Fitness 19, Fun Services, Inesco Display and JMJ Transportation are race sponsors, donating more than $5,000, according to fishcreekraccoonrun.com.
