STOW: The school district's transportation department has joined forces with the high school's student council to collect non-perishable items for the Haven of Rest.

The "Stuff the Bus" event kicked off last Wednesday in front of Stow High School.

Students are hoping to collect 10,000 items and as of last Wednesday, they have collected only 20 percent of their goal.

Student council advisor Alex McMahan said the students and staff are very willing to participate in this event and have a lot of energy.

"We have a strong staff and student body who knows how to positively impact their world and I expect them to continue doing that," McMahan said. "I hope they learn about the needs of others and how their actions impact others.”

McMahan added that he is confident that his students will "step up and deliver the Haven of Rest with a ton of goods."

Community drop off times this week are Monday-Thursday from 2:30-3:15 p.m., as well as from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. The bus will be in front of the high school during the designated times, accepting goods.

“It is important that our community participates in this event because those who are less fortunate need loving help,” McMahan said. “The goods we collect is only a small action but by giving to Haven of Rest in Akron we are encouraging and endorsing what great things they do."
