STOW: City Council continued reviewing a text amendment request made by auto dealer Ron Marhofer to permit auto sales and/or rental as a conditional use in C-3 Community Retail District.
The item had its second of three readings before council on Thursday night. No action was taken on the item because it requires three readings and a public hearing before a vote can be taken on the issue.
Marhofer has requested council amend a zoning regulation, which would allow him to expand his dealership into an area that is currently zoned as residential. The expansion would require the razing of three homes on Thorndale Ave.
The city's zoning code does not permit the expansion without special approval by council.
Michael Gordon, an attorney representing the Burley family who reside on Thorndale Avenue, addressed council on Thursday night.
Gordon requested council to "not have the second reading of the proposed text amendments.
“You are being asked to continue amendments that you don’t have adequate information on," he said.
Marhofer’s attorney John Slagter was not present at Thursday's council meeting due to family obligations, but another associate from the firm was present to represent Marhofer.
He requested for the item to be read.
A public hearing for the amendment has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 at City Hall.
