STOW, OHIO—Kimpton Middle School student, Julia Schneider, was honored with the 2013 Optimist Award by the Breakfast Optimist Club of Cuyahoga Falls during the organization’s annual spring awards ceremony at Silver Lake Country Club in May.
“Julia is a kind, unassuming young woman. She is an excellent student, responsible and trustworthy. Julia always has a smile on her face and is friendly to everyone. She quietly helps in any way she can regardless of the person needing help and never has a negative thing to say. Her peers respect her and respond well to her. She is a natural leader,” said Kimpton Language Arts Teacher Mrs. Carolyn Painter.
The Optimist Award recognizes students for upholding the dignity of youth, showing sincere devotion to the welfare of others and for generous and unselfish contribution to society. Students are nominated for the award by their school principal and are selected by member of the Breakfast Optimist Club.
Julia is a member of the Kimpton Drama Club, ETC Show Choir, the competitive dance team from Contact Dance Academy and Kimpton’s news team.
She helps produce and edit the school news, which airs daily on the morning announcements. Julia plans to continue study in the areas of music and performing arts.
“Most of our (Optimist Club) work supports youth, and we are happy to be able to recognize students for their good deeds through the wonderful programs we offer. We are also currently accepting new members to join us in order to continue our 52-year tradition,” said Herb Loewlein, president of the Cuyahoga Falls-Stow Optimist Club.
The Optimist Club of Cuyahoga Falls is a member of Optimist International, an organization dedicated to empowering young people to reach the best of their abilities. Adult volunteers support local youth through service projects and encouraging positive youth behavior.
